Accelerated Freefall Course
Become a Skydiver
AFF (Accelerated Free Fall) is the fastest route to becoming a skydiver with one-to-one instruction throughout. You receive a personalised intensive course to teach you all the skills necessary to become a qualified skydiver. A full days training is required prior to jumping covering everything you need to know - the equipment, aircraft procedures, sequence of the skydive, body position and how to deploy, control and land your parachute.
What Next?
The next step is to do an AFF Tandem with your instructor. On your AFF Tandem you will exit from 12,000 feet, experience free fall, fly the required flight pattern under canopy and land safely - all under the direct tuition of the instructor who trained you. Your instructor will be a highly qualified British Parachute Association approved Accelerated Free Fall Instructor with literally thousands of jumps’ experience. Making an AFF Tandem jump will greatly improve your confidence as you will know what to expect when you do the AFF Level 1 Skydive.
The AFF school at Swansea is unique in making the AFF Tandem part of the course. We find the AFF Tandem after training invaluable for the individual as it really calms the nerves and prepares people for what lies ahead!
Course Duration
The course duration is normally 3-5 days (weather permitting) but can be spread over a few weekends if need be. The course consists of 8 jumps in total (7 from altitudes between 10,000 and 13,000 feet and one from 5000 feet). The first 3 jumps are with 2 instructors and the next 4 are with one instructor. To complete the course you will perform a solo exit from 5000 feet. After each jump your instructors will give a thorough debriefing and brief you prior to each jump to make sure you are fully prepared.
AFF Skydiving
The ethos of AFF is continuous exposure to free fall and the opportunity to correct problems through in-air instruction. The canopy you'll be using is the latest square type parachute which allows easy control and safe landings. You will have a chest mounted radio throughout the course so instructions can be given from the ground if required.
AFF is the quick way into the world of skydiving. It gives the individual immense satisfaction and personal reward in terms of the people they meet and the experiences that only a few will ever have. A BPA AFF course is recognised throughout the UK and abroad - so once completed an individual can jump anywhere in the world!
10 consolidation jumps on completion of the AFF course are then required at £38 each. During this period you will still be checked and dispatched by an instructor but you will practise your skills, improving on what you were taught during the course. After your 10 consolidation jumps have been completed you will be awarded your FAI (Fédération Aéronautique Internationale / World Air Sports Federation) A Licence which is recognised throughout all centres in the UK and internationally.
Costs
At Skydive swansea we find that breaking down the cost of the AFF Course into "pay as you jump" is a much more easier than paying a large amount up front.
